Our Mission
Ink & Alchemy fosters a positive, inclusive, and intentional space for writers to come together through virtual and in-person retreats. Founded by authors and book coaches Emily Colin and Julie Artz, Ink & Alchemy empowers writers to build momentum through the collective energy of a supportive community. Together, we will nourish our creative spirits, develop sustainable writing practices, and provide a learning environment where writers flourish.

Introducing Emily
Emily Colin is a New York Times bestselling author whose books blend romance and the supernatural. Her debut novel, The Memory Thief, was a Target Emerging Authors Pick, and her independently published novels have won multiple awards. A former indie bookseller, she spent years working in community arts engagement and believes deeply in the power of the arts to transform lives.
Passionate about championing emerging voices, she has mentored writers through Pitch Wars, Kiss Pitch, and Duke University Arts Studio. As an editor and Author Accelerator-certified book coach, she helps authors build sustainable creative practices while bringing bold, unforgettable stories to life. Emily is the recipient of the North Carolina Sorosis and Lucy Bramlett Patterson Awards for Excellence in Creative Writing. In a past life, she organized a Coney Island tattoo and piercing show, hauled fish at a dolphin research center, and roamed New York City as an itinerant teenage violinist. When she’s not writing, she’s chasing chaotic pets or drinking mochas by the sea.

Introducing Julie
Julie Artz is an author, editor, and book coach who helps writers who are almost there cross the finish line with their novels and memoirs. Over the past decade, Julie has worked with both award-winning and newer authors across the publishing spectrum from Big Five to small and university presses to indie and hybrid.
Julie is an Author Accelerator-certified Founding Book Coach and a sought-after speaker and writing instructor. She regularly contributes to Jane Friedman and Writers Helping Writers, and has taught for Jane Friedman, SCBWI, IWWG, AuthorsPublish, Willamette Writers, and more. She has kept her industry knowledge sharp through her work as a Pitch Wars and Teen Pit mentor and a former SCBWI Regional Advisor (WWA), and through her memberships in SCBWI, The EFA, the WFWA, AWP, and the Authors Guild.
A consummate social and environmental justice minded story geek, Julie lives by an enchanted river in Fort Collins, Colorado with her husband, two naughty furry familiars, and two college-aged children who occasionally manifest.
